Why I'm Running For School Board
I'm running for School Board At-Large because I want to partner with parents, teachers, taxpayers and our community to achieve results that will better our schools and best serve our students. Our children’s success requires a School Board that listens to the citizens of Fairfax County and values our input.
This coming election we have an opportunity to gain the responsive and responsible School Board leadership that Fairfax County deserves. Together we can restore trust between the School Board and the community it serves.
As your School Board member, I will…
- Ensure accountability – through an independent audit of educational programs and funding
- Provide transparency in decision-making – by requiring clear and accurate information which is readily available to the public
- Value community input – by offering stakeholders more participation in decisions which impact our students and schools, such as class sizes, curriculum choices and discipline policies
- Promote collaborative leadership – by working together with the Board of Supervisors to best manage our county's investment in education
I will also ensure at least one School Board member understands special education and the needs of students with disabilities. As the only candidate with knowledge of the federal and state mandates which require their services, I will bring expert oversight to special education programming -- which makes up almost 20% of the budget -- and ensure these funds are used effectively to benefit students with disabilities.
